Bhit Patow (wall painting) is a traditional art form of the Santal community, characterised by bold lines, geometric patterns, and vibrant natural colours derived from locally sourced clays. Practised primarily by women, it reflects cultural identity and a close relationship with nature.
Through its engagement with local communities, the MGM Foundation initiated conversations with villagers on Bhit Patow (Wall Painting) and observed that the traditional art form had gradually deviated from its original designs over time.
To support its revival, the Foundation facilitated the procurement of coloured clay, enabling the continued use of authentic materials. Bhit Patow (Wall Painting) has also been adapted onto paper, engaging young artists to create portable artworks that can serve as souvenirs. The inclusion of tiger motifs further promotes awareness of wildlife conservation in and around Similipal National Park, while creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
